Anderson worked several jobs in order to support his family. Prior to The Man Maker Company, Anderson acted in all six episodes of “Combat Report,” a fictional World War II show that aired in 2015. When he wasn’t acting, Anderson worked at Nordstrom as a stylist in men’s clothing. “[Acting] taught me how to hang, how to handle rejection,” Anderson explained, “Nordstrom really gave me a look into the product.” Anderson spent time away from family to film and when he was home Nordstrom’s retail hours weren’t always easiest on his schedule.

Anderson left his job at Nordstrom before the summer of 2016 to work for a start-up company called Time and Oak. Anderson traveled and gained experiences of representative sales and “bringing a product to market.” As a father to three young kids, Anderson is stuck trying to support his family while spending less time at home. “[Wife and I], We never had any time together. We wanted to take control over our lives,” Anderson described. The idea for The Man Maker Company came from Elyssa Anderson, Joshua’s wife, being a trained herbalist and Anderson’s knowledge for men’s grooming products. The Man Maker Company officially started in November of 2016 and the Andersons really took off in the spring of 2017 investing all their time and efforts into the brand.

For now, Anderson gets instant gratification from Saturday Market sales where he can interact face to face with customers. Michael Adam, a first time buyer explains, “I bought this stuff [deodorant] because Josh [Anderson] was so passionate behind his product, and it’s good for the environment.” The Man Maker Company just signed with a representative group out of Portland, Oregon that deals with roughly 300 natural grocery stores. “I designed this to be wholesaled. I do have a wholesale program I am working on,” Anderson disclosed. The representative group stays within the grocery realm so that leaves Anderson trying new ways to sell his product. “I’ll go to all kinds of shops, bike shops for the Undercarriage Balm [new product].”
